Newsletter | Articles IOM Aviation Register planned for 2007 ![]() Brian Johnson, the Island’s first Director of Civil Aviation, believes the timing of the new register is perfect as business aircraft manufacturers’ order books are booming. Brazilian manufacturer, Embraer believes the Business Aviation market will demand almost 9,700 new aircraft worth $144 billion over the next 10 years. In the first quarter of 2006 General Aviation Jet aircraft deliveries rose 36 per cent on the same period in 2005 and next year will see the first deliveries of the Very Light Jet (VLJ) concept. Eclipse Aviation has orders for nearly 2,500 of their VLJ launch model, the Eclipse 500. Costing approximately £800,000 each with five or six seats and cruising at around 400mph these new high-tech aircraft will revolutionise business travel. An Isle of Man businessman will be one of the first European owners to take delivery of an Eclipse 500 early next year. Because of the international agreements on aviation, the register will be a UK register operated in and from the Isle of Man. It will be attractive to private and business owners because of its European location, the stability and reputation of Government, the high quality of the underpinning legal system and the availability of strong financial, professional and corporate service providers. There will be an income from registration, but it is in encouraging a new economic sector to grow that the real benefits will come. For instance, banks, lawyers, accountants and management companies are just some of those which could reap the rewards for the Island becoming a player on the international aviation stage. A key feature will be a highly responsive civil aviation authority with the potential to take on a number of categories of aircraft, both private and corporate. The register will be administered by a team of supportive and dedicated professional staff and they are aiming for the register to have a high reputation for quality and service. The ILS's Isle of Man office has details and fee scales of appropriate, cost-effective aircraft owning entities. |
